The couple and their two children moved into the sizeable abord in Bangkae last December.More than a decade ago,they bought the beautiful piece of land from a housing company in Bangkok. Becaues it was so close to their office,they thought the commute would be a breeze.However,he economc downturn in 1997 brought the house construction to a halt. considerable time,attention to detail and refined craftsmanship.Their home is no xception. The original design-created over 10 years ago-was completely altered to better suit their ever-changing needs and preference. "At first,we were more into a trpical/Bali-style house but then our preferences changed,"explains Mayuri.As both are in a creative business,they find travelling influencd their ideas for a home. "We had just returned from a European trip.It wa so memorable that we wanted to add European,notably French and Italian,flavours to our design." After four years of construction and gradual decoration,they managed to carry out what they had in mind and the outcome was startlingly satisfying.The exceptionally large living area with its 6 metre-high,barn-like ceiling stands out,amost giving the feeling of being a midget in Wonderland.In such a space,it might be easy for someone to become invisible or even alienated,but in this huge living space you find it easy to feel at home thank to its inviting color and cunning mix of furniture and decoration.For example,the hug dark chocolate-coloured,silken curtaina add a feminine touch. "We always gather in this corner,watching TV," says Worawut,gesturing toward a contemporary sofa."Or sometimes,we just

The master bedroom is another perfect family gathering spot.Walking through its old castle-like door,you encounter a modern and well-equipped room where the past and the present co-exist. "It seem incongruous some people think," says the interior design guru. "But I said sorry, I just like it
that way." The white kitchen and pantry also serve as a special retreat.The clean,sophisticated and uncluttered look oozes somesort of serenity in which you can unwind.But it is perhaps the most colourful space in the house as Worawut is a keen cook. "At first,we wanted t leave it as simple as possible,But then it will be aesthetically unappealing.So I said if we did it beautifully,I will learn how to cook." He says jokingly."He is so great at cooking.His signature dishes are Japanese-style curry,saru soba and seafood spaghetti, " Mayuri proundly adds. Memories for the Thammalangkul family are not about escaping to the past but living presents that are treasured,mostly through photography. " We both love photography,"says Mayuri "We also love to travel.That's why we have lost of traveling photos,souvenirs and collectible pieces and we use them to embellish our house." A collection of landscape photographs taken by Worawut make a majestic addition to the stairway. " That photo was taken during our trip to Rome," explains Worawut. "Morning glory,"he adds with abord smile. "It was one of those beautiful morning with spectacular light."

For the Thammaklangkul family,their home is not only a sanctuary of loving memories but also a magical place for marking new ones. "The day after we moved in was my birthday," he explains. "We had a big party. It was like a grand opening day for our house.It was a long,New Year holiday and the January weather was so pleasantly cool.That day was a real blast.We've been having great times sine day one."
